Energy Conservation Tree Program

The Energy Conservation Tree Program promotes energy conservation and environmental benefits by providing shade trees to residential homeowners, and affordable housing areas.

Trees and Energy Conservation:  Trees are a key factor in reducing consumer energy costs; avoided energy purchase, production costs, and overall water savings. Tree shade helps lower energy needs in the summer while allowing winter sun access. Trees also absorb atmospheric carbon which reduces the greenhouse effect, and in turn lowers temperatures city-wide!

Well placed, mature trees can save consumers up to 30% of annual cooling costs and save 10-25% of energy used for heating. It is estimated that an additional one million trees strategically planted could save $10 million in energy savings in a city of similar size and climate as Albuquerque. (x)tree: Build Awareness

Become a Branch in a Global Virtual Tree

At a time of year when trees are being cut down for the holiday season and tree cutting practices are endangering our ecological and cultural diversity, the (x)tree symbolizes how each of us can build awareness and make a small difference by contributing a “virtual seedling” and watching it grow, reminding us of the simplicity and beauty of tree planting.

El Prado, NM (PRWEB) December 1, 2010 -- A unique collaborative event is taking place that takes the traditional holiday tree to another dimension. The (x)tree, as it’s called, is a dynamic visualization of a tree-form generated by individuals sending messages from *social networks and mobile devices. A large scale projection of the (X)tree will be part of the Ledoux Street Celebration in Taos, a world-famous destination for skiing and art. Agnes Chavez, founder of STEMArts (www.stemarts.com) and creator of the (x)tree collaboration, says “In order for the tree to come alive and start growing, virtually, people from all over the world can just send a twitter message including the exact code term "#(x)tree" (without quotations). Each tweet generates a branch, tweet  by tweet, person by person, "growing" the algorithmic holiday tree." (www.twitter.com/stemarts)
“The (x)tree is "grown" from the intention of individuals” Chavez says, “it represents the way we are all connected, not only through communication systems, but biologically as part of a living system.”  (x)tree NM is a STEMArts (www.stemarts.com) and Santa Fe Complex (www.santafecomplex.org) benefit for Tree New Mexico (http://www.treenm.com/programs/million.shtml).

Tree NM, an organization based in Albuquerque, NM reached their millionth tree planted in March 2007 through community partnerships and educational outreach. They are now embarking on the “One million more” campaign and the (x)tree project (www.stemarts.com) hopes to raise awareness and money toward their goal. To participate in the tree planting drive you can visit the Tree New Mexico site (http://www.treenm.com/forms/dedication.shtml), donate $5.00 to Tree New Mexico, and have a real seedling planted in your name or as a gift for a friend or family member. The project will continue after the event as (x)tree will be transferred to a website, where people can continue to send their messages and support the Tree NM- tree planting drive.

Chavez says, "A reality of social networking is that, like in real relationships, it evolves over time. I am seeing the (x)tree (http://tiny.cc/qrmy9) as a year long collaboration with the inauguration of the (x)tree happening for the Lighting of Ledoux 2010 and its completion in 2011 for next years' Ledoux Lighting. Throughout the year Chavez plans to project it in different countries that she visits, and will also keep expanding the way people can participate (SMS, Facebook, etc.)

Pf Studio

Pay Homage to the New Mexico Bosque

Earth-Friendly, Exclusive Table Designs
By Pfeifer Studio

Portion of the sales-donated to Tree New Mexico

Pfeifer Studio, Internationally-recognized e-commerce retailer and design studio debuts a duo of earth-friendly tables created from wood found in the New Mexico Bosque.

Albuquerque-based Pfeifer Studio (www.pfeiferstudio.com) introduces locally made, earth-friendly tables to its growing selection of eco-conscious designs and product offerings . Most noted for creating affordable modern designs made from natural materials reflecting the beauty of the New Mexico desert landscape, the tables reference the unique local eco-system, while giving back to the place from which they are taken. Like all of the designs in their collection they will be sold exclusively through their website and in their flagship retail studio in Albuquerque’s historic North Valley.

The tables are made in New Mexico from locally-harvested woods (Russian Olive and Cottonwood) found in the Rio Grande Bosque in Bernalillo and Valencia counties.  In the spirit of giving and in honor of the trees, Pfeifer Studio will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these two new exclusive table designs to Tree New Mexico (www.treenm.com). A non-profit group in New Mexico dedicated to ensuring sustainable forests in urban and rural communities, it is one of the most successful urban and rural tree planting efforts in the nation.

Local, eco-friendly and full of personality, the Rio Grande Table in sculpted Cottonwood is created from wood taken from standing trees cleared from burn areas in the Bosque along the Rio Grande River in Valencia county. Part of an effort to rehabilitate the area, the trees were rescued and turned into ever-so-clever shaped side tables finished with a non-toxic topcoat finish.

Raw with burls and an eco-friendly non-toxic topcoat finish, each Olivewood Stump Side Table is completely unique from the other and full of character. Olive trees, non-native species introduced to New Mexico in the early 20th Century as an ornamental tree, are being removed in an effort to help restore the eco-system of the Bosque in Bernalillo county. The olive tree has been crowding out native trees along with other non-native species like Salt Cedars and Chinese Elms, so upon their removal Pfeifer Studio has been snatching them up to make cool, organic side tables.

Pfeifer Studio, a New Mexico based design studio with a showroom in Albuquerque’s historic North Valley, has a focus on graphic shapes and natural materials. Pfeifer’s designs have been featured in publications including The New York Times, Elle Décor, Western Interiors, The Denver Post, Lucky, and The San Francisco Chronicle.

They have designed private-label product for retailers including National Geographic, Saks Fifth Avenue, ABC Carpet and Home and DKNY. Exclusive designs from their own retail collection can be found in the interiors of the Hotel Valley Ho in Phoenix, the Hyatt Regency Tamaya in Bernalillo, NM, the Venetian Casino and Resort in Las Vegas and the Four Seasons Hotels in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

December 9th NeighborWoods Tree Planting

YES Housing's Solar Villa NeighborWoods Tree Planing

From 9:00am to 1:30

This Thursday Tree New Mexico and Team Depot associates from local The Home Depot stores will undertake a major green revitalization project at the Solar Villa Apartments. These trees will benefit Solar Villa and their residents through energy conservation, water savings, carbon sequestration, and beautification.

On Thursday, December 9, Tree New Mexico will organize 25 volunteers to plant 80 new trees at the Solar Villa Apartments. Joining senior residents from the community will be Team Depot associates from local The Home Depot stores, where giving back to the community is a core value.  Together they will plant trees strategically to maximize benefits for residents: the trees will provide heat-beating and energy-saving shade, as well as clean the air, reduce the heat island effect, and enhance the property value. Team Depot will also put their skills to work to improve the community by installing an irrigation system and repurposing lava rock for a beautification project on-site, to minimize waste from the project.
